Hello

I'm Nixon Hanna. I'm currently a sophomore studying physics and math at MIT.

I'm unsure of where I'll end up career wise, but last fall I became convinced of the importantance of AI safety, which has been guiding a lot of what I've been up to. I recently started working with EquiStamp as a technical contractor, contributing to projects related to evals, baselining, and red/blue teaming. Beyond this, I'm also interested in control, scalable oversight, and policy.

In addition to my personal work, I'm putting a lot of energy into becoming a field builder at MIT. This semester, I became an organizer for MIT AI Alignment (MAIA). As a part of this, I have been heading up an initiative to plan and lead more AI policy events in MAIA and working on the curriculum for MAIA's AI Safety Fundamentals reading group. In addition to MAIA, I've involved around campus in a variety of other ways including being Chair for the Lecture Series Committee (MIT's student-run movie theater), Captain and VP of the climbing team, and a TSR^2 Tutor for introductory electromagnetism courses.

In terms of personal interests, I spend lots of time and energy on climbing, lifting, movies, reading, music (soul, jazz, hip-hop, r&b), physical media, philosophy, stationery, and many other things.

If you're interested, you can read more about my background and interests on the about page of this site.

Feel free to reach out for any reason.

This site…

was created largely for the purpose of starting a personal blog.

I believe writing about things is an incredibly effective way of developing one's own beliefs. Yet I have rarely found myself writing about the things I care about recently.

So I started this blog to give myself a place to more often write about the things I'm thinking about.

You can read more about what my blog will entail in my first post.
